On Monday, June 30, 2014, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued
warrants against Denise J. Hein, age 60, of the 1100 block of Albany Court, for Murder in the First Degree and Armed Criminal Action. Hein is being held without bond.

The charges stem from an incident in the 8000 block of Pembroke Drive in south St. Louis County occurring on Sunday, June 29, 2014, wherein Hein and the victim, Gary Baranyai, age 65, of Webster Groves were both at a relative’s home. While alone in the house, a confrontation transpired between Hein and Baranyai ending with Hein shooting Baranyai to death. After the shooting, Hein called the police and was taken into custody when patrol officers arrived on scene. Detectives from the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons later interviewed Hein and presented the facts of the case to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office resulting in the named charges.
