Captain's Message

photo of Captain Cunningham
I would like to take a moment and introduce myself to the citizens of West St. Louis County. I have recently been assigned to Commander of the West County Precinct. I started my career as a patrolman in the Affton/Southwest Precinct. Earlier in my career, I  served in the Bureau Of Drug Enforcement/Street Enforcement Team and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. I was then assigned to the Affton/Southwest Precinct and the South County Precinct as a watch commander until my current assignment as Captain of the West County Precinct. My family and I reside in the West County area and I take a profound interest in ensuring the safety of the residents and businesses within the West County Precinct. I look foward to serving the citizens of West St. Louis County and maintaining the St. Louis County Police Department's impeccable reputation.

Thefts From Vehicles

Thefts from vehicles continue to be an issue for citizens of the West County Precinct. Although the majority of these crimes occur at night, there are many incidents that have occured in broad daylight and in well traveled areas. Please lock your car and refrain from keeping any valuables in your car. If you must keep valuables in a vehicle, please make sure the car is locked, the valuables secure and out of sight and that the car is in a location where it can be easily checked on. Please report any suspicious activity by calling 314-889-2341 and 911 for emergencies.

West County Precinct Goals

  • Provide the public with reasonable and efficient access to public services.
  • Be responsive to calls and identified needs for police services within the precinct 24 hours a day.
  • Allocate personnel to obtain maximum utilization of its human resources to meet identified needs.
  • Provide staff services for the traditional line functions of the police.
  • Maintain a proactive approach toward crime and disorder.
  • Identify criminal activity and act to resolve it.
  • Maintain activities to facilitate the orderly flow of people and vehicles within the community.
  • Maintain positive interaction with the public and a high degree of visibility within the community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Here is a list of current opportunities for citizen volunteers to get involved in precinct service events:

The West County Precinct Explorer Program

This is a great opportunity for young adults to serve their community and  "explore" a career in law  enforcement. The program builds leadership, character, confidence and discipline. Canidates must be between the ages of 14 and 21 to apply. For any questions, please contact Officer Dusty Poncin at 615-0700.

Citizen Police Academy

Gives citizens the oppurtunity to gain training and knowledge of law enforcement techniques and strategies. Citizens attend weekly classes taught by Officers and Department Personnel as well as getting an exclusive inside peek to various inter-department functions. Citizens graduate at the conclusion of each session and receive a certificate from the Department. For more information and to enroll in the next session, please contact Officer Vince Bazzoni at 615-0700.
For more information about the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association please go to:

Report Crime ... Make the Call

If you see a crime in progress or another emergency situation that requires an immediate police response, call 911. Provide the call-taker with a good description of the incident, the offender, and the exact location.

For non-emergencies, however, do not call 911. Non-emergency calls to 911 can slow the response time to true emergencies. The number to call for non-emergencies is (314) 889-2341.
