Captain's Message

photo of Captain DierkesGreetings,

As the Fourth of July, or Independence Day, holiday approaches we all look forward to having fun and enjoying social gatherings.  I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone to please enjoy the summer and celebrate the birth of our nation in a safe and responsible manner.

As a friendly reminder, ALL fireworks are illegal in St. Louis County.  Every Fourth of July, the police department is inundated with peace disturbance calls for loud parties and fireworks calls.  Please be considerate of your neighbors if you choose to have a gathering at your residence.

Exploding fireworks are a safety hazard and can become a fire hazard to your property as well as your neighbors.  With the dry summer weather, fires can be started in trees and rooftops by errant fireworks.  Also, every year we are dispatched to calls where individuals have injured themselves by fireworks that have malfunctioned.

If you and your family wish to celebrate with a fireworks display, I strongly encourage you to attend one of the numerous displays throughout the county that are put on by professional display companies.

The men and women of the Affton/Southwest precinct would appreciate your help in keeping our community safe by refraining from using fireworks.

The Affton precinct officers will be enforcing peace disturbance calls related to fireworks and loud parties.

Thank you for your cooperation and have a safe holiday,

Report Crime ... Make the Call

If you see a crime in progress or another emergency situation that requires an immediate police response, call 911. Provide the call-taker with a good description of the incident, the offender, and the exact location.

For non-emergencies, however, do not call 911. Non-emergency calls to 911 can slow the response time to true emergencies. The number to call for non-emergencies is (314) 889-2341.
