CMPA Instructor and Former Instructor Discuss Distracted Driving on St. Louis Public Radio

Posted 314 days ago ago by News Editor

St. Louis County Police Officers Don Jacquin and Karl Streckfuss were heard on St. Louis Public Radio's St. Louis On the Air program on June 13th. Jacquin, a St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy instructor and Streckfuss, a former instructor, joined Kim Schlau of Collinsville, Illinois, the Executive Director of the Jessica and Kelli Uhl Memorial Foundation in an almost hour-long interview with KWMU host Don Marsh. The subject was texting and cellphone use while operating a motor vehicle, and the high cost of this distracted driving.

Ms. Schlau discusses the problem from the perspective of a mother who lost two daughters in 2007 to a high-speed collision. It involved a former Illinois State Police officer who was using cellphone and computer while traveling well in excess of 100 miles per hour to a call. Officers Jacquin and Streckfuss add their perspectives and respond to callers.

The St. Louis Public radio webpage with the article and a streaming audio file of the interview can be found at http://news.stlpublicradio.org/post/texting-can-wait-collinsville-woman-st-louis-co-police-working-together-save-lives.
