While site acquisition of the 25 Radio Network sites is being finalized across the County, the ECC Staff readies approximately 2,000 portable and mobile radios for “Early Deployment” to the Fire and EMS First Responder agencies of St. Louis County. These radios will replace current agency radios, duplicating current operation, and add the ability to communicate with the City of St. Louis and Lambert International Airport, which have both migrated to a new radio system that went on-line recently. Once the St Louis Countywide P25 Trunked Radio System is ready for use, these radios will be re-programmed to replace most of the current radio operations and migrate to the new technology.
Programming (fleet mapping) efforts have been underway for some time for Fire/EMS, Police and Public Works agencies. This process is an ongoing and evolving effort requiring representatives and resources of well over 100 different agencies and municipalities in the county.
The Radio System Infrastructure will undergo staging at the manufacturers facilities in Schaumburg, Illinois in the coming months. Once staged, a team from the St. Louis County user and technical committees will travel to the staging facility to observe proper operation and get a hands-on demonstration of functionality. This staging meeting will be scheduled in the late Spring 2013 time period.
