Recycling Right Matters 

You might be surprised at how many things are recyclable, and how easy it is. However, it is important for you to avoid recycling items that are not recyclable. If there are too many non-recyclables mixed in with recycling, the entire batch of recycling could be ruined. To prevent this from occurring, look carefully at the lists below.


Materials that can go into your recycle bin for single-stream recycling:


Paper

Plastic

Glass

Metal

  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Catalogs, paperback books and phone books
  • Wrapping paper
  • Junk mail
  • Office paper, file folders and envelopes
  • Corrugated cardboard and waxed cardboard
  • Engineering drawings and plans
  • Other paperboard boxes, including cereal, dry foods, beverage cases, frozen foods and gift boxes
  • Any container with the #1 – #7
  • Beverage containers
  • Milk and juice jugs
  • Laundry and liquid dish soap bottles
  • Dairy product tubs (butter, yogurt, etc.)
  • Health and beauty containers
  • Food and beverage containers
  • Aluminum cans
  • Clean foil
  • Food or pie trays
  • Empty aerosol cans


Materials that cannot go in your recycle bin for single-stream recycling:


Paper

Plastic

Metal

  • No heavily soiled cardboard
  • #6 plastic (Polystyrene, Styrofoam)
  • Toys
  • Hoses and pipes
  • Plastic bags
  • Films, tarps, plastic sheets
  • Hazardous material containers (anti-freeze, pesticides, motor oil, paint)
  • Light bulbs
  • Mirrors
  • Windows
  • Ceramics, dishes or drinking glasses
  • Scrap metal
  • Paint cans

Additionally, our Places to Recycle section will help you with items that are recyclable, but not with commercial single-stream recycling.
